Tinplate was used in the manufacture of many toys, puzzles and games beginning in the mid-19th century. The toys were made from thin sheets of steel plated with tin, hence the name tinplate using a process of chromolithography. Many of today’s toys are now made of plastic which is why Tin Toys hold such fascination. That’s not to discount popular toys such as Lego and Playmobil which are highly prized by collectors across the world.
